Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial Bench Formation Detail for Politically Important Cases in terms of Judges
- Ijaz ul Ahsan
- Umar Ata Bandial
- Munib Akhtar
- Qazi Faez Isa
- Yahya Afridi
- Mansoor Ali Shah
- Tariq Masood
In terms of participation in cases deemed non-politically significant, all seven judges exhibit a close clustering. Although Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan is consistently present in the majority of benches, his likelihood of being part of a bench handling non-politically significant cases is only 1.89 times higher than that of Justice Yahya Afridi, who occupies the last position on the list.
However, a notable disparity emerges when considering politically important cases. Justices Ijaz ul Ahsan and Umar Ata Bandial, with Justice Munib Akhtar trailing at a considerable distance (noteworthy for an increased inclusion rate in such cases during the tenures of the present and past chief justices), are markedly more likely to be included compared to the other four justices. In fact, when it comes to assigning politically important cases to a bench or forming a special bench for such matters, chief justices exhibited a significant preference, being nine times more likely to include Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan than Justice Sardar Tariq, who is positioned at the bottom of the list.
Evidently, a hierarchy is discernible among the judges, indicating that some hold a more prominent status than others.
