The Government of Sindh has undertaken significant steps to combat child abuse, violence, and exploitation. Under the umbrella of the Social Welfare Department, the Sindh Child Protection Authority (SCPA) has achieved the following milestones:
- Establishment of Sindh Child Protection Authority’s Headquarters in Karachi.
- Enforcement of Sindh Child Protection Authority (Amendment) Act.
- Operation of Child Protection Units (CPUs) in 30 districts.
- Deployment of Child Protection Officers (CPOs) across districts in Sindh.
- Functioning of District Coordination Committees (DCCs) at the district level, led by Deputy Commissioners.
- Implementation of the Sindh Child Marriage Restraint Act.
- Successful launch of the Child Protection Management Information System (MIS).
- Nomination of Focal Persons by various Departments to handle children’s cases.
- Approval stages of the Sindh Child Protection Policy.
- Signing of Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with NGOs focusing on child protection and rights.
- Conducting awareness-raising sessions in schools, colleges, madrasas, and communities at the district level.
- Establishment of a shelter home for 300 children in Malir, Karachi.
- Operational orphanages in Karachi, Hyderabad, and Sukkur.
- Completion of registration for 37 public and private orphanages.
- Provision of treatment facilities for drug-addicted children.
- Upcoming launch of the Orphan Widow Support Program.
